The Art of Reading Smoke - New Course
This course will teach students to recognize smoke conditions which indicate where a fire might be in a building, how large the fire might be, and the dangers that might be present for both the firefighters and inhabitants. The two and one-half hour course uses video, case studies, and practice sessions to reinforce these skills which are very important to firefighters and officers. The use of video footage of actual incidents brings realism, and challenges the students.

History

In 2003, Dale Mashuga founded Fire Instruction and Rescue Education, Incorporated (F.I.R.E. Inc.) Dale had been involved in the fire service for many years as a former member of the Andover, Minnesota Fire Department, where he served in a number of capacities including fire chief. Dale is currently a member of the Scandia Valley Fire Department which is located just south of Motley, Minnesota. He was also the head of the fire programs at the Anoka Technical College, a part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System’s 32 state-supported technical colleges, community colleges and state universities. F.I.R.E. Inc. has grown and continues to add courses, training props, and mobile simulators to its offerings.


F.I.R.E. Inc. has only one full-time employee, Dale Mashuga, who owns the company and teaches courses, as well as provides logistical support and maintenance of the mobile simulators, scheduling and administrative functions. The backbone of the instruction staff is scores of highly qualified part-time instructors, many who have fire service backgrounds and/or knowledge and skills in specialized areas of interest. Many of our instructors have over twenty years of fire service and instruction skills.

F.I.R.E. Inc. strives to provide the highest quality of training, and opportunities for hands-on experiences at a reasonable cost. We also strive to meet the customer’s needs for training at their location, and within their various training schedules. The company can also develop courses specifically designed to meet the customer’s needs, or as we refer to it “Customized Training.”
