General Live Burn Information

Level III - Operations Evaluations
An exercise designed to simulate as close as possible a normal response to an involved structure.

This level of training is designed to simulate as close as possible, a normal response to an involved structure. We will evaluate the incident commander, pump operator, attack team, backup team, safety officer, and other positions as determined by the local department.

A “ghost team” made up of instructors will be provided on scene with an established water supply and separate pumper to ensure safety of the attack and backup teams.

Responding crews will be “dispatched” to the fire, and will respond from a nearby location in a timeframe which closely simulates that experienced by the department if the fire were an actual event (appropriate time delays and response order). Additional resources will need to be identified and requested by the incident commander.

Evaluation
We will discuss the response as a large group and include a report form all of the officers assigned, as well as comments form the evaluators. The focus of these discussions will be how the individual officers felt about the operations, any difficulties that may have been encountered, things that went very well, and areas that might be improved upon. Were the overall strategy and tactics clearly understood by the officers, was there a need to change strategies and tactics, were communications maintained and effective, did all of the responders act as a team? All responders and evaluators will have a final opportunity to state how well they felt the incident was handled, or what changes would they suggest for the future. Evaluation discussions will include:
